Join us for a virtual talk and Q&A session with Dr. Ryan Smith, author of "Death and Rebirth in a Southern City: Richmond's Historic Cemeteries."
Ryan K. Smith (PhD, University of Delaware) is a Professor of American history at Virginia Commonwealth University. His research focuses on American religious history, material culture, architectural history, and historic preservation. Previous works include "Robert Morris's Folly: The Architectural and Financial Failures of an American Founder" and "Gothic Arches, Latin Crosses: Anti-Catholicism and American Church Designs in the Nineteenth Century." In this talk, he will discuss his latest book, an exploration of the history and recovery of more than a dozen burial grounds in Richmond, Virginia, through the lens of race.
