About this Event
3900 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA
https://artforthejourney.org/programs/omatraining/Discover how artmaking becomes a bridge to dignity, connection, and joy for people living with dementia. Art for the Journey is proud to offer our next OMA Facilitator Training, a nationally recognized, evidence-based program originally developed at Miami University’s Scripps Gerontology Center.
Over the course of three immersive days, participants learn how to lead abstract art sessions that honor autonomy, spark meaningful social engagement, and bring creativity back into the lives of older adults. This training blends hands-on artmaking, dementia-care best practices, and trauma-informed teaching approaches, equipping you with everything needed to launch an OMA program in your community.
Ideal for:
Arts organizations, senior-care professionals, teaching artists, healthcare workers, volunteers, and anyone passionate about person-centered dementia care.
Training Dates:
February 9–11, 2026 (Monday–Wednesday)
Art for the Journey Studio (Shineforth Campus) | Richmond, VA

A deeper understanding of expressive arts as a healing modality
Confidence to implement a high-impact program in senior communities
