Emily Monroe

I am a professional violinist in the Richmond Symphony and the newest Artistic Director of the Richmond Chamber Players. I am also an active chamber musician and baroque violinist and have performed in local concert series including the Richmond Chamber Players, Smithsonian Academy Orchestra, Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia, Three Notch’d Road: The Virginia Baroque Ensemble, Wintergreen Music Festival, and the Washington National Cathedral.

In 2022, I received my Master of Music in Violin Performance and Chamber Music from the University of Michigan under the tutelage of Professor Aaron Berofksy. During my time in Ann Arbor I served as a section violinist in the Ann Arbor Symphony, Concertmaster of the University of Michigan’s Symphony Orchestra, and as a member of UM’s Baroque Chamber Orchestra under the leadership of Professor Joseph Gascho.

Previously, I graduated with a Bachelor of Music and a minor in Baroque Violin from Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music where I studied with Professor Cornelia Heard and Professor Maria Romero-Ramos.

From 2012-2016, I attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts high school program as a student of Professor Kevin Lawrence. My musical education began at the age of five with Ning Zhao, a violist in the Charlotte Symphony. Over the years, each of my teachers has inspired me and had a profound influence on my artistic growth.
