The Lee Playhouse is excited to announce the opening of our second Mainstage production of the 2022-2023 season, “A Raisin in the Sun.” This classic drama opens 3 February and runs weekends through 19 February 2023 at the Lee Playhouse, Building 4300 on 1100 Mahone Ave. Fort Lee, VA.

Lorraine Hansberry’s 1959 classic, “A Raisin in the Sun”, follows the Youngers, a Black family living on the Southside of Chicago, as they try to improve their financial circumstances after an insurance payout following the death of the family’s patriarch. The Youngers deal with the issues of racism, identity, class, and the changing dynamics of the family structure in a post-war America. This landmark drama was one of the first on Broadway to examine African American life on the cusp of the civil rights era.

The 13-member cast is lead by Rodney 'RC' Anderson as Walter Lee Younger, Helen Allen-Taylor as Lena 'Mama' Younger, Shannan Batten as Ruth Younger, and Danisha Jones as Beneatha Younger. Enzo Mason, Naiihrr Dryden-Mason, Isaiah Jamal, Mike White, Michele Butts, Jamison Jones, Kamran Hamilton, Saniya Jacobs, and Danis Jones complete the cast of talented actors.
