Artists’ Statement

I have been photographing people involved in dance, and other movement through space, for a number of years. It all started with belly dancers and now includes ethnic dancers, modern dancers, ballroom dancers, even acrobats and twirling monks.

These images are comprised of a variety of performers, shot over a number of years, and in a variety of locations. Some of them are more than one image combined together, using Photoshop, and some are shot using camera settings only. Capturing the excitement of the performance in still images, often by using a slow shutter speed, has been my focus.

This exhibit will remain up in our Baxter and Elaine Perkinson Jr. Art Gallery through Friday, February 3rd.
