Students became contemporary history makers while exploring the rich history of Jackson Ward through digital photography. They developed their own projects using inspiration from the collection of the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia.
Under the guidance of program mentors, local photographers and museum professionals, class participants explored the work of influential Black photographers, learned about the fundamentals of photography using DSLR cameras, practiced basic editing techniques using Adobe Photoshop, and were introduced to several careers related to photography.
Their photographs tell the rest of the story.
