HPG Chamber of Commerce and Tourism presents a month of arts programming at Guncotton Coffee & Gallery in Downtown Hopewell. Come celebrate and explore local art at Hopewell's premier cultural space. All humans welcome. On Tuesday, October 23, local graphic artist and painter Danny Riddle will give us an inside look at his process and vision.

About the Artist:

It all began at Crystal Lake in the early 70s. I went there to paint my initials on the door of my ‘62 Corvette in Old English lettering, armed with a bottle of Testors model paint and a cheap brush. Before I left, l painted initials on 6 other vehicles for people who happened to show up while I was doing mine. The fee I charged was either $3 or $4 per car.
Riddle Sign Company was officially licensed and established in 1973, and gradually developed into a full time sign , truck and window lettering, custom vehicle paint company, offering gold leaf, airbrush, freehand pinstriping, logo design, race car and motorcycle graphics and full custom overall paint jobs.
Through the years, I have been fortunate to have my work published in numerous sign, car, boat, motorcycle, automotive newspaper advertising magazines and flyers, and books on custom paint techniques, along with a nationally televised show on the Discovery channel.
I had the pleasure of teaching auto body repair and paint refinishing at Hopewell High School for 7 years, and a few months at Highland Springs Tech Center during another instructor’s absence.
I am currently semi-retired, and am honored and blessed to be working side by side with my son, Jimmy, who has embraced the trade, and become a skilled artist and custom painter. Jimmy handles all the “big” jobs, and I assist him. Jimmys paint work has won numerous awards at local and regional car shows, going up against seasoned professionals.
The good Lord blessed me with a small amount of talent, and an endless supply of enthusiasm. My motto is”continuous improvement” as I go about producing quality “low brow” and “custom culture” art.
