The Lee Playhouse will present Kiss Me Kate as its final production in the Theatre Company’s 2021-2022 season.
Kiss Me, Kate (Book by Sam and Bella Spewack with music and lyrics by Cole Porter) is the story of a production of a musical version of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew and the heated relationship on and off-stage between Fred Graham, the show’s director and star, and his leading lady and ex-wife Lilli Vanessi. Romance between Lois Lane, the actress playing Bianca, and her gambler boyfriend, Bill; the arrival of Lilli’s new romantic interest; a couple of Gangsters; and a timeless Score comprise this sophisticated, romantic and hilarious Musical Theatre Masterpiece which earned the first Tony Award for Best Musical. Playhouse veterans Kenny Holley (Fred Graham, Taylor Baltimore (Lilli Vanessi, Derek Tatum (Bill Calhoun), and Emily Berg-Poff Dandridge (Lois Lane) lead the cast of veterans and newcomers to the Lee Playhouse Stage. Kiss Me Kate at the Lee Playhouse is directed by Frank Foster with Musical Direction by Leilani Fenick and Choreography by Kathryn Belleman. The creative team includes Frank Foster (Scenery), Thomas Hammond (Costumes), Matthew Landwehr (Lighting), John Redling (Sound Design), and Heather Davis (Stage manager).
Remaining Kiss Me Kate performances are Fridays and Saturdays, May 13, 14 , 20,and 21 at 8 p.m., and Sundays, May 15, and 22 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15 (adults) and $7 (youth).
