City to Host Jay Sharpe in Spotlight Gallery

 

Richmond, VA – The City’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will feature Jay Sharpe, a renowned jewelry Richmond based artist, in the Spotlight Gallery with an exhibit entitled “My Travels through Art, New Work by Jay Sharpe.”  Opening on Friday, May 11 at Pine Camp Arts and Community Center, 4901 Old Brook Road, an artist reception will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will be on display until June 15, 2018.

Mr. Sharpe has had a very successful career spanning over 25 years being a metalsmith and creating fine handmade jewelry. He has been featured in several magazines including Essence, Richmond Magazine, and Southern Living Magazine. Most recently, Jay appeared on an episode of Bravo TV’s “Real Housewives of Atlanta” where he was able to showcase his Henleava Jewelry collection.

Mr. Sharpe, a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, is excited to share his drawings and paintings never before on display for the public. “Art is art, whether it is something you wear or something on canvas. I have always looked at it that way and now I am excited to show another layer of my creativity,” said Sharpe.

 

Spotlight Gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. This exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information or to schedule tours please contact Shaunn Casselle, Curator at (804) 646-6722.
