RVA Dance Collective is excited to present an amazing evening of choreography our 12th annual repertory concert at Dogtown Dance Theatre this spring.
Co-Artistic Director Danica Kalemdaroglu will present a new work for the full company. The piece is a dynamic and physically demanding work, set to Max Richter's rendition of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons.
Co-Artistic Director Jess Burgess is also presenting a new work for the full company, including guest dancers Kelly H and Meoleake (Monte) Jones. Initially set on the dancers in JMU's Virginia Repertory Dance Company, "Metastasis," challenges the dancers with intricate unison, precision, and force.
RVA Dance Collective is excited to also present new works set on the company by local Richmond choreographers Kevin LaMarr Jones of CLAVES UNIDOS and Kelly H of KrasH! Dance. Collaboration within our dance community is so important, and we are thrilled these Dogtown choreographers worked with the company dancers this season.
RVA Dance Collective proudly presents the work of company member Kayla Xavier this season as well. Each year, one of the collective members is asked to choreograph for the company to help provide a space for them to explore their choreographic voice. The piece is a hilarious satire that takes a look inside the life of the party.
The company welcomes guest performers from Charlottesville, Amanda Liscouski and Mariah Johnson. The duet commissioned a new work from Jess Burgess this summer.
Each season RVA Dance Collective presents the advanced company students from The Dance Company, based in Mechanicsville in the hopes to inspire new young dancers to continue to dance throughout their adult lives. This season, company dancer Shannon Comerford has set a haunting and compelling work on these talented dance youth.
It will be an excellent weekend of inspired and compelling choreography.
