About Scene in Virginia (SIV) SIV is a curated monthly film series presented by Belltower Pictures and hosted at the historic Byrd Theatre in Richmond’s Carytown district (or other Richmond area historical theatre on the rare 2nd Monday night that the Byrd is not available).
The program is created to elevate the voices of Virginia filmmakers, Scene in Virginia provides a dedicated theatrical platform for films that reflect the people, places, and stories of the Commonwealth. The series brings together filmmakers, audiences, and community leaders for a shared cultural experience that extends beyond the screen.
In contrast to the increasingly isolated nature of online viewing, the series fosters meaningful connection, conversation, and community around film. Each screening is designed as more than a traditional film presentation. Scene in Virginia creates an interactive, in-person experience where filmmakers and audiences engage directly through live Q&A discussions hosted by Craig Martin from PBS’s THE GOOD ROAD, group dialogue, and networking opportunities around the screening if desired.

Selected films represent a range of formats—including short films, feature-length films, and other narrative or nonfiction works—and are chosen for their storytelling strength, originality, and connection to Virginia.
Participation in Scene in Virginia offers filmmakers:
A theatrical screening at the Byrd Theatre, one of the nation’s most iconic movie palaces (unless unavailable)
Exposure to a live audience of engaged viewers, creatives, and community members
A moderated Q&A session providing direct audience interaction
Promotional support through Belltower Pictures and venue marketing channels
Opportunities for networking, collaboration, and future project visibility
Scene in Virginia is designed as a long-term cultural platform with the goal of expanding our film focus across Virginia over time, creating ongoing opportunities for filmmakers to present their work and connect with audiences.
By participating in Scene in Virginia, filmmakers become part of a growing initiative dedicated to strengthening Virginia’s film community and celebrating the power of storytelling through shared experience.
