No fooling! Earth is a pretty awesome planetary home.

And with spring in the air, we can really soak up the beauty—and science—that’s all around us. Join us for Science After Dark: Down to Earth where we’ll explore everything from soil to space as we celebrate the wonder of Earth and ways we can keep our big blue marble happy!

  • Are you wild for wild flowers? Then you’ll love making your own wild flower seed sphere! Just take home, plant and enjoy.
  • Caution! Worms at work. Drop by the decomposition station to learn about composting and the important work of our wiggly friends. Yes, live worms will be involved.
  • Become a recycling ranger and take reusing to a new level by flexing your creative muscles to turn bottles into planters in The Forge!
  • Spring is for walks around the neighborhood. Have you ever thought about what’s in the air in your part of town? Stop by the RVAir booth to learn more about our community science project studying air quality in Richmond neighborhoods.
  • Get a new perspective on the Earth with presentation on our Science on a Sphere®, a room-sized global display system that literally drops down from the ceiling!
  • Our youngest scientists (ages five and younger) will be able to get in on the action and make their own bird feeders!

Plus, our friends from the Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society will be at the event, celebrating chemistry, nature and all things buggy with tons of hands-on experiments.

Guests can also enjoy live astronomy shows in The Dome at 6:30 and 7:15 p.m. No tickets are required. Each show is open to the first 250 guests.

Science After Dark admission is $15.50 for adults; $13.50 for youth (ages 6 – 12) and seniors (ages 60 and older) and $10 for preschool-aged children (ages 3 – 5). Science After Dark admission is free for Museum members, children under 2, educators, military and college students with a valid ID.
