So you know how to thread your sewing machine, sew a straight line and maybe even a curve - now what?
In this class, which is more discussion than participation, Sarah will talk about how to pick your first project, what muslining is and why you may want to do it, and how to read a sewing pattern envelope, instructions, and pattern sheets. We’ll take body measurements that we’ll use to discuss the always complicated step of picking your size and grading between sizes. We’ll discuss fabric - choosing the right fabric and the importance of prepping it accordingly. And lastly, Sarah will demonstrate how to layout, cut, and mark pattern pieces.
Supply list: If you have a sewing pattern, whether it is something you’re interested in making or not, please bring it along with you. But we’ll have a sample in class for people to learn from.
SARAH CURTIS started sewing in 2010 when she wanted to save some money on roman shades then shifted her focus to clothing in 2012. Now, thanks to gobs of sewing classes and inspiration from sewing bloggers around the globe, her once-casual hobby has spiraled into a goal to never buy ready-to-wear clothing again. You can see what she’s made so far at www.dresshandmade.com.
