Extraordinary dancing for extraordinary times. From loneliness and sorrow to hope and love, the pandemic has inspired a multitude of emotions in all of us. These Studio Series performances will feature Richmond Ballet favorites presented in new ways, paired with new works that reflect current times – all designed to awaken and uplift the human spirit.
Extended periods of separation and togetherness have permeated our lives these past several months, and these themes take center stage in world premieres by Richmond Ballet Artistic Associate Malcolm Burn and local choreographer Starr Foster. Burn’s new work, which salutes the renowned Le Spectre de la Rose by Michel Fokine, is set in a time of separation, when dreams are essential in our hope for a brighter future. Through the lens of dance, Foster’s premiere explores the highs and lows that so many partners, families, and friends experienced while sheltering in place together. The October program is completed by the poignant The Waiting Room by Salvatore Aiello and vignettes from Val Caniparoli’s whimsical Violin and charming Djangology, works that are sure to delight both past and present fans of Richmond Ballet.
