Chuck Larivey’s painting method is directly based on molding shapes and depicting light and shadow, broad-base at the beginning and continually refined (not overworked) until the desired effect is achieved or until the energy dissipates.

Classes are be devoted to small practice works and the longer sessions conclude with a Saturday/Sunday 2-day large-format class. This final 2-day class will apply everything that has been learned during the month and applied to create a wonderful final work stretched linen canvas. This schedule and format will be repeated every month throughout 2017.

Choose your own subject. Participants focus on their chosen subject with related small-practice studies. The goal is to become comfortable painting shapes, gesture, color, light, and shadow that best represents the chosen subject and the artist’s intention. Between classes, artists should go online or otherwise study examples that might be useful in their own work.

Important: At registration, indicate subject preference for the month. Related references will be made available to supplements your own. Choose a single standard small-works study size for the month (8x10, 12x12, or 11x14). Recommended supplier: Jerry’s Artorama, Centurion oil-primed smooth linen (pads, panels, or stretched canvas). Linen pads can be mounted or stretched if desired.

Limited to 10 members. Printed materials list available on registration.
