Learn to apply foundational coding skills to game based coding using littleBits! In this session, students will participate in a fun STEAM design challenge by designing and building a game that is controlled by code using coding blocks.
Also in the session, the presenter will help students get started in computer science, learning about computing jobs and the importance of developing high-level technical skills for both personal and career development.
About the presenter:
Jorge Valenzuela is both a graduate teaching assistant and doctoral student at Old Dominion University and the lead coach at Lifelong Learning Defined. Additionally, he is a national faculty of the Buck Institute for Education and a national teacher effectiveness coach for the Engineering by Design curriculum. His work is aimed at helping educators understand and implement computational thinking, computer science, STEM/STEAM, and project-based learning.
Currently, Jorge presents nationally on these topics; is an ISTE author, an education advocate, and frequent contributor to books, academic journals, how-to blogs, and webinars. Also, Jorge is the 2018 awardee of ISTEâs Computer Science Excellence Award and recipient of the Lynn Barrier Engineering Leadership Award for his contributions to STEM education in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
