The artist will present a new body of work at the intersection of various shifts occurring in his life. Offering a raw and vulnerable approach to these shifts and their translation through his works, Lightbody invites you to dig through the grittiness and engage the suffering.
"Lightbody's art in brutal honesty aims to draw attention to the concept of surrender in the face of life's complexities and the inevitability of death. His work is an attempt to simply BE, by embracing the revolving door of life and death. While Lightbody's changing struggles with addiction, impatience, greed, and attachment is ever-present, his art reflects the refinement of those emotions and experiences through a process of healing. By confronting these issues directly, he transforms them into an amalgamation of spatial and visual manipulation that manifest in his work.
In this sense, Lightbody's work is comparable to the Brutalist movement in architecture, which emphasizes rawness and honesty in materiality. His large-scale paintings, which also serve as self-portraits and metaphors for transformation, offer abstract visual representations of the cycles of life and death, growth and evolution. Thick waves of lines and colors, thick brushwork, and graphic drawings that resemble graffiti; created through unconventional materials such as concrete, coalesce into a visual frenzy of rawness and grit that mimics the chaos and addictive desires that Lightbody has struggled to control throughout his life." -Lightbody
