“Witch!” tells the story of Essex, Massachusetts in 1692 when Bess, a young woman who lost her family in an Indian massacre, is taken in by the good people of the village.  Soon, though, signs of satanic magic start appearing and Essex is plunged into a search for witches.  “Witch!” is based on Nathaniel Hawthorne’s witchcraft stories and the actual history of the New England Witch Trials.

“Witch!” performances are scheduled for Halloween weekend - Friday October 26 at 7 p.m.,  Saturday October 27 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.  The play is for audiences 12 and above.

3 Penny’s production of “Witch!” stars RVA theatre professionals Ann Davis and Annie Zannetti.  Ann was in Cat Theater’s February production of “The Diviners”, which Julinda D. Lewis of the Richmond Theatre Critics Circle said it  “draws you in and that will linger with you afterwards.”  Annie’s performance in Richmond Triangle Players production of Noel Coward’s “Design For Living” brought acclaim from Broadway World.com “Annie Zannetti who steals the spotlight at times with her hilarious and diametrically opposed characters of a cockney maid and a New York socialite.”  Ray Carver, the play’s author, directs the production.  The Minneapolis Star-Tribune says Carver’s work “catches the essence”.

3 Penny Theatre’s been producing plays for five years, since 2013.  Over the years it’s evolved into a company made up of seasoned theatre professionals from around the United States who now live in Central Virginia.  Also, the company has a young, up and coming actor from Richmond who has joined them, too.  Together, they produce three productions a year ranging from comedies, to dramas, to mysteries/thrillers.  Some of 3 Penny’s past productions have been “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”, “Mark Twain’s The Man That Corrupted Hadleyburg”, and “A Christmas Carol: a ghost story for Christmas”.
