Always Wanted to Learn Guitar? Now’s Your Chance.

Maybe you’ve always wanted to play guitar but never got around to it. Maybe there’s a guitar sitting at home collecting dust. Or maybe you learned a few chords years ago and you’re ready to give it another shot.

Beginner Group Guitar for Adults at Sound Hall Studios is designed to make getting started fun, approachable, and completely judgment-free.

No previous guitar experience is required. This eight-week class gives adult beginners the opportunity to learn alongside other new musicians in a relaxed and supportive group environment. You don’t need to know how to read music or have any previous musical training. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn.

What You’ll Learn

Throughout this beginner guitar class, you’ll build a foundation that can help you continue playing long after the course ends. You’ll learn:

The fundamental parts of the guitar and how to use them
Several introductory chords that open the door to countless songs
How to smoothly switch between chords while maintaining rhythm
Techniques for improving the sound of individual notes and chords
A few songs that bring everything together

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s to get you playing.

Each class is designed to help you build confidence, develop practical skills, and experience how much fun making music with other people can be.

Meet Your Instructor — Theocles Herrin

Theocles is a singer, songwriter, and music teacher with a genuine passion for helping people discover the joy of making music. With more than six years of experience leading guitar, vocal, ukulele, songwriting, and band lessons at Charlottesville-based nonprofit The Front Porch, he brings knowledge, energy, and enthusiasm to every class.

His teaching style centers on one core belief: music is meant to be fun. Theocles uses a flexible and approachable teaching style that meets musicians where they are and helps make learning an instrument feel exciting rather than intimidating.

Whether this is your first time holding a guitar or your first time picking one up in years, you’ll be welcome here.
