Students learn basic chords, strumming patterns, and simple songs. No prior musical experience is required. Just bring a willingness to learn and have fun.
Meet Your Instructor — Ms. Kat Zeh
Ms. Kat Zeh is a passionate music educator from New Kent County, Virginia. She studied Music Education at Longwood University. Currently she teaches in Hanover County Public Schools and brings enthusiasm and warmth to her students every day. This past summer she completed Orff Level I Instruction at George Mason University. Orff is a specialized teaching approach that emphasizes creativity, movement, and play-based learning. As a result it works especially well with younger students.
Beyond the classroom Ms. Zeh actively performs with the Richmond Concert Band and the Midnight Ukulele Society. Outside of music she enjoys yoga, spending time outdoors, playing video games, all things stationery, and time with family and friends. She is thrilled to bring her love of the ukulele to Sound Hall Studios and looks forward to sharing this journey with her students.
What to Bring
Sound Hall Studios provides a classroom set of ukuleles for each session. However students cannot take classroom instruments home for practice between sessions. Therefore we strongly recommend that students have their own ukulele at home. A soprano or concert ukulele works best for this age group. In addition the following items are recommended for each student:
A soprano or concert ukulele for home practice
Felt picks for a softer and more beginner friendly strumming experience
A ukulele fingering chart for home reference
Sound Hall Studios carries all of the above items in our retail shop. We also carry the same ukulele models used in class. Stop by and we will help you find the right fit for your student.
