Inthrive Film Festival: Stories from Incarceration Surviving Women

Presented by Inthrive Film Festival at VCU - University Student Commons Theater

Join us for a powerful in-person event focusing on women and incarceration through two compelling films.

Beyond offers unprecedented access to Sing Sing prison, following incarcerated men as they prepare for a TED-style event that shares personal stories and ideas for healing and reform. This film highlights themes of vulnerability, healing, and redemption. All told through the lens of incarceration surviving filmmaker Asia Johnson.

Whispers Beyond Bars tells the moving story of a young pregnant woman who discovers her incarcerated mother’s journal, revealing parallel birth stories that confront the trauma of maternal separation and celebrate the resilience of love across generations.

Experience these narratives that illuminate the human spirit behind incarceration and inspire change.
