The Concert Ballet of Virginia traces its roots back to the first ballet company in Richmond - the Ballet Impromptu. Its Artistic Director, Robert Watkins, later changed the name to The Richmond Ballet. In 1976, that organization became two separate ballet companies. One became The Concert Ballet of Virginia, and the other evolved into the current Richmond Ballet. The Concert Ballet of Virginia. The Concert Ballet continues its long history of providing the community with a variety of professionally-mounted ballet performances and roles that are open to wide diversity of dancers and supporting participants.
