Elise Ferguson monoprint
Opening reception for two new exhibitions at Main Projects: July 23 from 5-7:30pm
Two new shows opening at Main Projects. The first is a series of new monoprints from NYC based artist (and Richmond native), Elise Ferguson. The show title, F.L.W Marin, connotes inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright’s Marin Civic Center in San Rafael,California. Designed as a flowing, highly patterned environment, the building is defined by long horizontal forms, repeating arches, circular motifs, and a bold color palette that create a sense of rhythm and movement across its structure. Ferguson’s F.L.W. Marin similarly uses geometric repetition, color relationships, and recurring forms to suggest movement through space.
Ferguson has created 18 unique monoprints that translate her longstanding interest in pattern, geometry, and architectural space into a new relief-based process. Created with her signature pigmented plaster on 300lb watercolor paper, the series marks the first time Ferguson has incorporated debossing into her work, using pressure itself as a way to draw, structure and activate the surface.
Main Projects will also present New Flesh, a two-person exhibition featuring new and recent work by Tori Mitchell and Amelia Baxter, both of whom received their MFAs from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2026.
Bringing together Mitchell’s oil paintings and Baxter’s ceramic sculptures, New Flesh considers how inherited images, histories, and bodily forms can be remade from the inside out. Mitchell draws from medieval art, religious imagery, myth, and folklore to ... view more »
