L. C. Bird High School

Lloyd Campbell Bird was born and reared in Valley Center, Highland County, Virginia, near the West Virginia line. Educated in public schools and at Randolph-Macon Academy, he received a degree in pharmaceuticals from the Medical College of Virginia. During his life he distinguished himself as a businessman, citizen, and legislator.

As a legislator, he represented Chesterfield and other localities for twenty eight years. He was instrumental in creating the community college system in Virginia, and he has been remembered as a man in whom “wisdom and common sense were pleasantly blended.” Though he rarely took the Senate floor, when he did, his colleagues listened and often followed his lead. Lloyd Campbell Bird is remembered as a man who was “considerate, imperturbable, conservative, diligent, a man who was a motivator, a man of perseverance and inexhaustible energy, the embodiment of integrity.”
