About This Class

In this beginner class adult students (15 yrs +) explore the fundamentals of ukulele playing in a relaxed and supportive group setting. Every lesson builds confidence and sparks creativity. Students learn basic chords, strumming patterns, and simple songs in a no-pressure environment designed for adult learners. No prior musical experience is required. Just bring a willingness to learn and enjoy the process.

Meet Your Instructor — Ms. Kat Zeh

Ms. Kat Zeh is a passionate and experienced music educator from New Kent County, Virginia. She studied Music Education at Longwood University. Currently she teaches in Hanover County Public Schools and brings warmth, patience, and genuine enthusiasm to every student she works with. This past summer she completed Orff Level I Instruction at George Mason University. Orff is a specialized teaching approach that emphasizes creativity, movement, and experiential learning. As a result her teaching style connects naturally with learners of all ages and backgrounds.

Beyond the classroom Ms. Zeh actively performs with the Richmond Concert Band and the Midnight Ukulele Society. Outside of music she enjoys yoga, spending time outdoors, playing video games, all things stationery, and time with family and friends. She is thrilled to bring her love of the ukulele to Sound Hall Studios and looks forward to sharing this journey with her adult students.

What to Bring

Sound Hall Studios provides a classroom set of ukuleles for each session. However students cannot take classroom instruments home for practice between sessions. Therefore we strongly recommend that students have their own ukulele at home to practice between classes. A soprano or concert ukulele works best for beginners. In addition the following items are recommended:

A soprano or concert ukulele for home practice
Felt picks for a softer and more beginner friendly strumming experience
A ukulele fingering chart for home reference

Sound Hall Studios carries all of the above items in our retail shop. We also carry the same ukulele models used in class. Stop by and we will help you find the right fit.
